AMU Organises Eye Donation Awareness Programme at Atrauli Inter College
Aligarh : As part of commemorating the National Eye Donation Fortnight, a team of Ophthalmologists from Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) engaged with the students of Atrauli Inter College.
Dr. Sameen Mirza, a member of the medical team, took the opportunity to educate the gathering on the importance of eye donation. He emphasized that only the cornea, the transparent front part of the eye (commonly referred to as ‘Putli’), is transplanted during the procedure, and this noble act does not alter the appearance of the deceased.
Professor A.K. Amitava, Chairman, Department of Ophthalmology, JN Medical College, AMU delivered an inspiring speech, urging both students and staff to become ambassadors of the eye donation movement.
Dr. M. Saquib, the Assistant Eye Bank Incharge, explained the reasons behind the low rate of eye donations and highlighted that eyes can be donated up to six hours after death, dispelling misconceptions surrounding the timing of eye donation.
Dr Zia Siddiqui, Eye Bank Incharge, J.N. Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH), expressed gratitude to all the participants for joining this noble mission and raising awareness about eye donation.
