AMU organized a certificate distribution ceremony and Sham-e-Ghazal
ALIGARH: The Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension, AMU organized a certificate distribution ceremony and Sham-e-Ghazal (poetic evening) on Saturday, 23/11/19 in the courtyard of its premises.
The chief guest, AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Akhtar Haseeb and the guest of honour, Dr Hameeda Tariq distributed certificates to the prize winners and the participants of the Slogan Writing Competition, the Computer Fundamentals and Microsoft Office Basic, the Poster Making Competition, Handicraft, the Functional English Competition, the Textile Designing and the Literacy Course. Dr Hameeda Tariq who is a renowned pediatrician, in her speech advised the learners of the Centre to work hard, to succeed and added that the government of India slogan ?Beti bachao, beti padhao? points to the fact that women should try to be financially independent. For this, the centre plays an important role.
Professor Haseeb pointed out that student drop out is a big social issue and the centre has an important role to play in this regard. He mentioned that the government scheme “Kaushal Vikas” has helped women find opportunities of livelihood other than farming. He said that acquiring skills and teaching skills are both equally important. Skill based business ideas like making potato chips and Lucknow chicken embroidery have been helping people be financially independent. He asked the teachers and the learners of the centre to work hard in this direction.
The director of the centre, Professor Mohammad Gulrez enlightened the audience about the important role that the CCAEE plays by organizing outreach programs and imparting skill based knowledge in an informal mode to learners from underprivileged backgrounds. It offers courses such as Microsoft Office basics, textile designing, handicraft, literacy, functional English and beauty and skin care to make the learners financially independent.
The deputy director of the CCAEE, Professor Aysha Munira Rasheed, while welcoming the guests said that the centre regularly organizes competitions like poster making, slogan writing, etc, to make the learners feel and experience a glimpse of the campus life.
Dr Shamim Akhtar, Assistant Professor, CCAEE anchored the program with his important inputs about the importance of the centre and the vital role it plays in the society.
The second session, Sham-e-Ghazal, was conducted by Dr Humaira Afridi in an aesthetically pleasing manner. Apart from the renowned singer, Mr. Johnny Foster, Mr Mohammad Amir, Ms Mujahida Begum, Instructor, CCAEE, Professor Nazia Hasan and Professor Aysha Munira Rasheed enthralled the audience with their soulful performances of ghazals and other poems by Rahi Masoom Raza, Faiz Ahmad Faiz and Asghar Saleem. Mr Siraj and Mr Vinod were the musical accompanists.
Dr Humaira Afridi said that an entire constellation of great poets is associated with Aligarh.
The program was attended by the principal of the Women?s College, Professor Naima Khatoon, OSD, VC Secretariat Professor Asfar Ali Khan, Professor Naseem Ahmad, Chairman of the Department of Social Work, Professor Abrar Hasan, Professor Seemin Hasan, Professor Subuhi Khan, Provost of the Begum Azeez Un Nisa Hall, Professor Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chemical Engineering, Professor Omar Farooq, Dr Ali Jafar Abedi, University Health Officer, Dr Swasti Kulhari (Mrs Akash Kulhari, SSP, Aligarh), Dr Priyanka Jha, Max Webber Fellow and the learners/stakeholders and the staff members of the centre.
