AMU Professor delivers a talk at NRIUMSD, Hyderabad
ALIGARH : Prof. Mohd Anwar, Department of Ilaj Bit Tadbeer, A.K. Tibbiya College, Aligarh Muslim University delivered a lecture at the National Research Institute of Unani Medicine for Skin Disorders (NRIUMSD), Hyderabad, during a workshop organized by the Central Council for Research in Unani Medicine, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
Speaking on the “Scope and Challenges in Unani Research”, Prof Anwar stated that India with its vast wealth of medicinal plants and knowledge, has enormous scope and potential to revolutionize the healthcare system because herbal treatments are bio-friendly, eco-friendly, cost-effective, and relatively safe compared to modern medicine.
He said that the world can depend on Unani medicine for musculoskeletal, metabolic, psychological and lifestyle disorders as it has minimal side effects and long-term health benefits, and provides regimenal therapy.
He discussed the challenges facing Unani researchers and suggested necessary modifications, including assembling herbal genomes of medicinal plants, protecting threatened medicinal plants, generating evidence-based data, conducting clinical studies on the recommended diet, standardizing single and compound drugs, conducting research on emergency medicine, and rationalizing Unani medicine.
