AMU professor honoured
ALIGARH : Prof S. Moied Ahmed, Incharge, ICU, J. N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, has been felicitated by the Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for his role in framing the Indian Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
The AIIMS Director signed an MoU with the IRCF, to make the AIIMS a training center for Indian Resuscitation Council Federation (IRCF) certified CPR guidelines.
Prof Moied highlighted that in spite of more than 50 years of CPR training in India, certified by the American Heart Association (AHA), only 2% of the Indian population could be made aware of the CPR, because training is very costly and the guidelines are not tailor made for Indian scenarios, where the masses comprise more than 60% of people from rural background.
He said that keeping these limitations in view, the IRCF has framed 3 CPR guidelines, the Compression Only Life Support (COLS) for lay men, Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support (BCLS) for resuscitation of victims outside the hospital by medics and paramedics and the Comprehensive Cardiopulmonary Life Support (CCLS) for resuscitation of victims inside the hospital by medics.
The guidelines, published in a pub med indexed journal in 2017, was a Make in India project and has been endorsed by all the major medical societies and associations in India. The COLS guideline has been incorporated in the CBSE class XI curriculum recently, which endorses the Federation’s mission to make “All Citizen A Life Saver”.
The Federation has also launched a “Journal of Resuscitation”, which will be the second journal in the world on resuscitation, he added.
