AMU Professor pleads for gender responsive budgeting

ALIGARH: Much-talked about empowerment of women belonging to the marginalised communities can only be realized through gender responsive budgeting  and it is what has  hardly been  attempted,” said Prof Azra Musavi, Director  Advanced Centre for Women’s Studies, Aligarh Muslim University, while speaking at the 24th edition of Les Rencontres Économiquesd’Aix-en-Provence, REAIX 2024, organized by Le Cercle des économistes, a think-tank of 35 renowned French economists founded 30 years ago and held at Aix-en-Provence, France.

Her academic deliberation on the topic, “Bridging Our Worlds: Towards A Reconciliation,” of the 24th edition of Les Rencontres Économiques evoked good response. More than 350 speakers from 45 different nationalities participated in the discussion on economic, political, social and geostrategic issues at the REAIX 2024, affecting the world, Europe and France.

Prof Musavi was a panelist in the roundtable discussion on “Climate Change, Everyone Take Shelter!”, along with Jacques Le Pape (Chairman of the Board of Directors, CCR, France), Romaric Lazerges (Partner at A&O Shearman, France), Paolo Ribotta (Managing Director, Zurich Insurance, France), Claire Waysand (Member, The Circle of Economists) and Anne de Guigné (Journalist, The Figaro Economy).

She discussed the impact of climate change in terms of loss of livelihood, food insecurity, displacement and the worsening of gendered vulnerabilities of marginalized communities in the global south, particularly in India. She emphasized the need for developing comprehensive strategies in consultation with the stakeholder communities, including women and youth, as well as NGOs, to effectively address the impact of climate change events.
