AMU Professor presents lectures at a Faculty Development Programme
ALIGARH : Prof. Rizwan Ahmad Khan, Department of Civil Engineering, Z.H. College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University presented two lectures at a Faculty Development Programme on “Advanced Construction Material and Techniques” organized by the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh.
In his first lecture, titled “Microbial Concrete: Understanding the Mechanisms and Exploring Practical Applications,” Prof Khan pointed out that microbial concrete uses bacteria to precipitate calcium carbonate, which brings into effect self-healing cracks in concrete. He emphasized its potential to enhance the durability and sustainability of concrete structures.
His second lecture, titled “Innovative Techniques for Enhancing the Strength and Durability of Concrete Using MSWI Ash,” focused on the use of Municipal Solid Waste Incineration (MSWI) ash in concrete production.
Prof. Khan explained how MSWI ash, typically a waste product, can be reused as a partial cement replacement, improving concrete’s strength and reducing its environmental impact.
