AMU Professor presents paper at CIPAC symposium in the Netherlands
ALIGARH : Prof Shahabuddin, Department of Applied Chemistry, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University attended the 68th Annual Meeting of Collaborative International Pesticides Analytical Council (CIPAC) and the 19th joint open meeting of CIPAC/FAO/WHO in Wageningen, The Netherlands. He also presented a paper on “Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) Instrumentation and its Applications in Identification and Structure Elucidation of Pesticides and their Impurities” at CIPAC Symposium.
Prof Shahabuddin, who has been a pioneering member of CIPAC from India since 2022, said that CIPAC is an international, non-profit and non-governmental organization devoted to promoting international agreement on methods for the analysis of pesticides and physicochemical test methods for formulations and developing inter-laboratory programmes for the evaluation of test methods.
In his paper, Prof Shahabuddin explained that liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) combines two selective techniques, enabling the analysis, isolation, and measurement of highly complex mixtures. He highlighted that mass spectrometry is a highly sensitive analytical method known for its excellent selectivity. A mass spectrometer generates charged particles (ions) from chemical substances and then utilizes electric and magnetic fields to measure the mass of these ions.
