ALIGARH  : “India shares a cordial relationship with Arab states in the field of trade, economy and Diaspora which enriches their neighbouring and civilizational bonds. So at the G20 platform, India by taking not only Arab countries but also the whole global south to its side, focuses well on being a voice of those whose concern could not be addressed by the world powers earlier,” said prof Mohammad Gulrez, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University, while delivering a lecture on “Global Power Transition and Evolving Regional Architecture: India and the Gulf Region”, organized by the India Arab Cultural Centre (IACC), Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi.

He highlighted the dynamics of the present Indian leadership in the global scenario, especially the Prime Minister’s robust role in bridging the gaps of the world order. He said the world witnessed a bipolar order followed by a multi-polar order where the multilateral institutions were assigned to contribute to world peace, but those institutions and world powers are under scanner in recent times. He stressed that in this context India has an opportunity to assert itself and the G20 platform is a very right place for it.

He said that that a new world order is in transition and in the context of the Arab world, India has Egypt, Oman and UAE as the guest countries at the G20 summit which shows its concern to the Arab neighbouring states.

Prof. Gulrez asserted that India is trying very hard through the G20 to counter the challenges faced by the globalized world today in the field of cyber security, terrorism and green energy with a target to enhance the chances of achieving global peace.

Earlier, welcoming the guest speaker, Prof. Nasir Raza Khan, Honorary Director and Convener of the G-20 Lecture Series, underlined the importance and relevance of the talk.

The lecture programme, followed by a question-answers session, concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Aftab Ahmad.
