AMU Students Raise Legal Awareness among Migrant Workers

 

Aligarh : The Legal Aid Cell, Department of Law, AMU Centre, Malappuram organized a legal awareness camp for more than 250 migrant labourers, under the convenorship of Dr. Naseema P.K with the support of Dr. Faisal KP, Director and Dr Shahnawaz Ahmed Malik, Co-Coordinator.

Dr. Absar Aftab Absar, Teacher Incharge and the student members of the Legal Aid Cell visited Caltech Polymers at Kakkanchery near Calicut to raise legal awareness among migrant workers.

The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Manjeri collaborated with Aligarh Muslim University Centre, Malappuram for the programme. Sri Shabbir Ibrahim M., Secretary/Sub-Judge, DLSA Manjeri welcomed the students while launching the programme.

Dr. Absar expressed his profound gratitude to the DLSA for giving the students an opportunity to share their legal knowledge about the NDPS (Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances) and POCSO (Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences) Acts.

The provisions of the NDPS Act and the POCSO Act were of particular interest to the pupils. Legal advice was offered and sections of the Acts were discussed, and the audience shared their issues with the students who tutored them.

The team that discussed the NDPS Act included Mosharraf Ahsan, Hamza Hashir, and Aabid, while the team of Shameem Akhtar, Mohd. Asif, Ghulam Ashraf Tauquir, Muskan Khan, and Tooba Khan deliberated on the POCSO Act.
