AMU VC launched the plantation campaign Ek Ped maa Ke Naam

ALIGARH  : The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Prof Naima Khatoon today inaugurated a large scale plantation drive under the national campaign, “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (Plant4Mother). The drive has been launched by the University’s Department of Lands and Gardens to promote environmental sustainability and spread forestation on AMU campus.

Prof. Khatoon emphasized the critical role of trees in combating drastic climate change, preserving biodiversity and ensuring a healthy ecosystem for future generations. She said that the #Plant4Mother campaign, an initiative of Mission Life (Ministry of Environment, Govt. of India), led by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, aims at encouraging individuals to plant trees and contribute to a greener planet.

She stated that the #Plant4Mother campaign is not just about planting trees, it is about nurturing our planet and taking responsibility for its well-being. Each tree we plant today is a step towards a sustainable future, she remarked.

She highlighted the University’s commitment to environmental conservation and urged everyone to participate actively in such initiatives.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, the Member-in Charge, Department of Land and Gardens Prof. Zaki Anwar Siddiqui said that more than 5000 saplings of trees will be planted during the rainy season.

He urged the university staff and students to participate in a large number in the campaign Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, and help make the university campus greener and richer in flora and fauna.

The Associate Member-in-Charge, Dr. Tariq Aftab said that this campaign aims to support ecosystem, reduce carbon footprints, and enhance the quality of life for all.

He informed that a diverse range of species of plants such as Cassia fistulaChorisia sp., Ceiba sp., Roystonea regia, and many shrubs, including NeriumJatrophaHibiscusPlumeriaLagerstroemia, etc. have been planted today, considering their ecological benefits and adaptability to the local environment.

He also extended a vote of thanks.
