AMU VC releases Competency based Practical Pathology manual, portfolio and logbook
Aligarh : Prof Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) released a Competency-Based Practical Pathology Manual, Portfolio and Logbook for MBBS second-year students.
The book conceptualised and compiled by Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Principal and CMS, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital and Dr. Bushra Siddiqui (Department of Pathology) and edited by Prof. Mahboob Hasan, Chairperson, Department of Pathology and Prof. Nishat Afroz, has been designed to support the acquisition of essential skills and knowledge in pathology.
The manual is structured to ensure that each student not only understands the theoretical aspects of pathology but also demonstrates practical proficiency in the laboratory. It will provide concise yet comprehensive theoretical knowledge on various disease processes, including etiology, pathogenesis, and morphologic changes at cellular and tissue levels. The manual focuses on critical topics such as general pathology, systemic pathology, hematology, and clinical pathology, aligned with the medical curriculum.
Each section of the manual provides a basic outline of the pathological lesions with gross and microphotographs for reference. The logbook section is intended to track the student’s progress, encouraging reflective practice and continuous improvement.
The photographs for the book are contributed by Dr. Arshi Khan, Senior Resident, Department of Pathology. It has been published by the University’s Publications Division.
