AMU VC sends condolences on Prof Mohammad Zahid’s demise

Aligarh: Professor Mohammad Zahid, former Dean, Faculty of Arts and former Chairman, Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University, yesterday, passed away here at his residence, after a prolonged illness.

Prof Zahid, 67, was a popular teacher among his students and colleagues and taught at the university since 1978. He was appointed as Professor in February 1999 and retired from University services in 2018.

Prof Zahid had published three books including his doctoral thesis Abdur Rahman Bijnori: Life and Literary Works and a number of papers. He participated in several national and international conferences and seminars, including the second World Urdu Conference in Mauritius.

Besides being a member, Academic Council, AMU and Manyawar Kanshiram Urdu, Arabi, Farsi University, Lucknow and member EC, Dr B R Ambedkar University, Agra, Professor Zahid served the university as Provost, Aftab Hall in 2000 and Incharge, University Guest House.

Aligarh Muslim University Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor expressed a deep sense of grief on Professor Zahid’s sad demise and prayed for a higher place for him in Jannah. He said Prof Zahid had a wide following among his students and he was loved by one and all for his humane behaviour. He will always be remembered by his students and colleagues, he added.

Prof Masud Anwar Alvi, Dean, Faculty of Arts also condoled his departure for heavenly abode and prayed for solace for the bereaved family.

Prof Zafar Ahmad, Chairman, Department of Urdu said that Prof Zajid’s demise was a big loss to the department as he always stood for the development of the department. He was a good teacher.

Prof Zahid is survived by wife, a son and two daughters.
