AMU VC visits the electricity distribution facility

 

ALIGARH  : The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor, Prof Mohammad Gulrez visited the electricity distribution facility of the university and the newly constructed power distribution stations at the central substation B and the 33KV substation near University Polytechnic.

Prof Gulrez appreciated the work of the electricity department and said it deserves appreciation for its novel power distribution strategy and its enforcement through modern infrastructure.

The Member Incharge, Electricity Department, Prof Mohammad Rihan said that the University receives 33 KV power supply from UP Power Corporation through a single point and its further distribution at two different voltage levels 11 KV (HV) and 440 V (LV) is managed by the electricity department. In view of the increased requirement of the electricity, major revamp and augmentation of the electricity distribution network has been completed.

He said that the major works done in recent years for improving the reliability of power supply include underground cabling for the whole HV network including spare cables, and the beginning of underground cabling for the LV network with completed supply work for Maulana Azad Library, Kennedy Hall, some portions of the area surrounding Strachey Hall and SS North and Medical Colony, etc. The underground cabling of supply to Abdullah hall, Women’s College, IG hall, Tibbiya College and Ahmadi School for Visually Challenged is also under process with the support of the Aligarh Smart City Ltd.

He said that a new dedicated feeder has been commissioned for supply to the JNMC Trauma Centre and spare cabling has been done for supply to its critical areas. A new SCADA based central substation has been commissioned near the Physics Department. The old set up of the substation was commissioned in 1969.

“For augmenting backup supply, 320 KVA generators for Administrative Block and Substation B catering to the Library, Kennedy hall, numerous departments and critical areas have been installed. In addition to these, rewiring/revamp of internal distribution has also been completed at Allama Iqbal Hall, a large number of residential quarters including at Bhamola colony, distribution of supply in the administrative block, and distribution panels of halls of residence. The ongoing renovation of the 33KV substation is another crucial development in improving the electricity network in the campus,” he added.

Prof. Afifullah Khan (OSD Development), Dr. Mohd Ajmal Kafeel (Associate MIC), Eng. Rajeev Sharma, Mr. Md Arifuddin Join Registrar, Ahmed and other staff of Electricity Department were also present during the visit of VC.
