AMU Vice Chancellor release books, journals

 

Aligarh : Only a few books can perhaps delve into the reasons for 1857 revolt like Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s Asbab-e-Baghawat-e Hind (The Causes of the Indian Mutiny) and now a Punjabi translation of the book facilitating a cultural dialogue to bring Punjabi and Urdu readers together has been released by Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor in a special ceremony which also saw release of other important academic books and journals.

The translator of the book, AMU research scholar, Daya Singh Punjabi (Department of Modern Indian Languages) remarked: “I have translated this book to provide the Punjabi readership with an understanding of the British policies that caused the uprising. The reasons for the first war of independence in 1857 were penned down articulately and precision by Sir Syed”.

“It is hoped that the translation of Asbab-e-Baghawat-e Hind will provide the Punjabi readers not only with a comprehension of the cultural and socio-economic aspects behind the uprising, but also an understanding of the vision and rationalist thought of Sir Syed that gave a new direction to education in India”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

Earlier in the day, Prof Mansoor released three publications of the Department of Islamic Studies which included the ‘Quranic Narrative of Multiculturalism’ by Prof Obaidullah Fahad. The book traces pluralistic trends in Islamic light and how Muslim Society addressed issues of diversity and pluralism.

A special issue of Majallah Uloom Islamiah on the life and thoughts of Prof Muhammad Yasin Mazhar Siddiqui and a Journal of the Institute of Islamic Studies were also released.

‘Seema’, a periodical of the Department of Urdu to commemorate the memory of Prof Seema Saghir was also brought out today.

Another book to feature in the must to-read list of AMU fraternity released today was ‘Aligarh and Propagation of Science: From Sir Syed to the Present Day’ by Dr Asad Faisal Farooqui (Research scholar, Department of Mass Communication).

The author explained the valuable contributions of Sir Syed in the field of modern scientific education and how he founded the Scientific Society to instill a scientific temperament among Indians in the book.

‘Computational Modelling in Industry 4.0- A Sustainable Resource Management Perspective’ (Springer Nature) was also brought out.

Edited by Dr Irfan Ali (Department of the Statistics and Operations Research), the book addresses the inherent complexity of managing ecosystems, particularly with respect to the involvement of multistake holders, lack of information and uncertainties. Critical analyses are made to point out the need for and propose a call for a new way of thinking about sustainable resource management.

Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor released the book.

‘Advanced Linear Algebra with Applications’ by Prof Mohammad Ashraf (Department of Mathematics, AMU), Dr Vincenzo De Fillipis (University of Messina, Italy) and Dr Mohammad Aslam S (Department of Mathematics, AMU) giving a comprehensive understanding of the topics taught at the advanced undergraduate level and in-depth knowledge of topics such as vector spaces, linear transformations, dual spaces and inner product spaces was also released.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Mansoor appreciated the United Nations ‘letter of recognition’ given to Naved Alam, MA (ELT) student of the University for his participation on the Communications Committee for the Young Professionals Affinity Group at the United Nations.

Today the Vice Chancellor released five books and two journals and the release ceremony was attended by Prof Kranti Pal, Prof Imtiyaz Hasnain, Prof A R Kidwai, Prof M A Johar, Prof M Shafey Kidwai, Dr Faiza Abbasi, Prof. Qazi Mazhar Ali, Prof Asma Ali, Prof Mohammad Ashraf, Prof Qamrul Hasan Ansari, Dr Shakir Ali, Prof Abu Sufyan Islahi, Prof Abdu Hamid Fazili, Prof Mohd Sami Akhter, Prof Aquil Ahmed and Dr Aijaz Ahmed besides the authors and editors.
