AMU Vice Chancellor Releases Collection of Essays on Mir Taqi Mir

Aligarh :Prof. Naima Khatoon, Vice Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) released a collection of essays on Mir Taqi Mir, one of the most revered Urdu poet, entitled “Teen sau sala jashn-e-Mir” in a function held here under the aegis of the Department of Urdu, AMU.

Edited by Prof Mohammad Ali Jauhar and Dr Sarwar Sajid, the collection consists of articles on Mir, published as part of his tercentennial celebrations. The volume highlights the brilliance of Mir’s poetry and its critical evaluation.

The Vice Chancellor also released three other books on the occasion, namely “Latifuddin Ahmad: Hayat aur Karnamey” by Dr. M. Iqbal Zargar, “Mumtaz Husain ki Ilmi wa Adabi Khidmaat” by Dr. Nazia Sumbul, and “Chaak par jalta Chirag” a life sketch by Dr. Aftab Alam Najmi and Ghazala Tahseen.

Addressing the function Prof. Naima Khatoon said that Urdu is not the language of any particular class, neither it is the monopoly of any special class; rather it is the language of common people.

She lauded the efforts of the authors and editors for bringing out well edited volumes and especially congratulated the research scholars whose articles are included in the “Teen sau sala jashn-e-Mir”.

Earlier, Prof. Mohammad Ali Jauhar, former Chairperson, Department of Urdu highlighted the importance of ‘Jishan-e-Mir’ and collection of articles.

Conducting the proceedings, Dr. Moid Rasheedi introduced Dr. Nazia Sumbul’s book on Mumtaz Hussain, Dr. Mamoon Rashid talked about “Chaak par jalta Chirag”, Dr. Mohammad Hanif introduced the book on Latifuddin Ahmad, while Dr. Moidur Rahman discussed the contents of “Teen sau sala jashn-e-Mir”.

Prof. Quamrul Hooda Faridi, Chairperson, Department of Urdu proposed a vote of thanks.

The faculty members and students attended the programme in large numbers.
