AMU Women’s College organises All India Mushaira

Aligarh: Eminent poets regaled the audience with their couplets during the annual All India Mushaira organised in the auditorium of Women’s College, Aligarh Muslim University on Friday.

Principal, Women’s College Prof Naima Gulrez informed that the All India Mushaira, is a traditional annual event of the Women’s College. The literary event continued till later hours with students, teachers and other dignitaries enjoying the function.

The Mushaira was presided by eminent poet Azhar Inayti Rampuri while compering was done jointly by Dr Sajid Sarvar and Dr Shariq Aqeel while Dr. Humaira Afridi welcomed the guests.

Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtar Haseeb who was Chief Guest on the occasion stressed upon the development of Urdu language. He also stated that University has produced several literary gems including eminent poets who are well known across the globe. “Urdu language is an asset for the country and community. The younger generation should come forward for its development,” he said. On the occasion, Prof Haseeb also recited a Ghazal penned by his late father.

Prominent Urdu poets like Azhar Inayti, Dr Obaid Siddiqui, Shahpar Rasool, Azra Naqvi, Salma Shaheen, Mehtab Haider Naqvi, Siraj Ajmali, Abid Ali Abid, Zoya Zaidi, Mushtaq Sadaf, Salma Hijab and Moeed Rashidi participated in the Mushaira. The poetry by these poets made the evening memorable. Their gazals and nazms captivated the audience.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion included prominent paediatrician Dr Hameeda Tariq, Prof Asfar Ali Khan, Prof Mohammad Gulrez and several others.
