AMU Women’s’ College programme
Aligarh : Marking August 14th, the Women’s College at Aligarh Muslim University solemnly observed the “Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.” A poignant event, graced by Principal Professor Naima Gulrez, aimed to honor the countless souls who endured the agonizing partition ordeal. With dignity, attendees remembered the profound suffering of that tumultuous period.
The ceremony’s poignant start featured an evocative exhibition, crafted by the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR) and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), thoughtfully presented by Dr. Mushtaq Wani. B.A. students Ramsha Rafat and Basra Hasan delivered touching speeches in English, recounting the indelible horrors. Aqsa Khan, a final-year B.A. Hindi student, evoked emotions with a moving Hindi speech. The audience was further stirred by soulful renditions of patriotic anthems, “kranti ki Mashaal se Mashaal ko Desh ke Jawaan Jalaye ja” and “Sarey Jahan se Schcha Hindostan hamara.”
Adding an artistic dimension, BFA final-year students Saima Arshi and Aliza Zameer unveiled stirring paintings capturing the partition’s anguish. Fine Arts students depicted tragic scenes, encapsulating this painful chapter. B.A. Communicative English students Aiman and Saneah orchestrated the event, graced by luminaries like Prof. Shabana Hamid, Prof. Sarika Varshney, Dr. Bushra Naseem, Dr. Sadaf Fareed, Dr. Imrana Khatoon, and Dr. Hina Moinee.
Concluding with grace, Saneah Rizvi, a 5th-semester Communicative English student, expressed heartfelt gratitude. The event ended with the resonating strains of the National Anthem.
Unity and patriotism flowed into August 15th, as Women’s College, AMU, radiated grandeur for the 77th Independence Day. Principal Prof. Naima Khatoon unfurled the flag, accompanied by the soaring national anthem. She lauded the collective efforts of teachers, urging appreciation for freedom fighter sacrifices and dedication to national progress.
Patriotic songs, including “Sare Jahan se Achcha Hindustan Hamara,” echoed, filling hearts with pride. Prof. Hina Parvez orchestrated the ceremony, attended by dedicated faculty and staff.
This twofold commemoration at Women’s College, AMU, testified to the institution’s commitment to history, unity, and enduring patriotism.
