AMU Women’s Volleyball Team Performs well in the Intervarsity Tournament

 

Aligarh : The Aligarh Muslim University Women’s Volleyball team made it to quarter finals in North Zone Intervarsity Tournament 2023, organised by the Directorate of Physical Education & Sports, University of Kashmir, Srinagar, under the aegis of Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The tournament was held from October 30 to November 2, 2023.

The first win for AMU in the 42 team-event was in the pool matches, where it defeated Raja Mahendra Singh Pratap University, Aligarh, in a thrilling 5 set match.

In the next match against Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, the AMU team won the match in 4 sets.

In the pre-quarter finals, the AMU team faced the host University of Kashmir, which was a super hit match with cheers erupting throughout the ground and a lot of supporters for both the teams. AMU defeated the University of Kashmir with 25-15, 19-25, 25-22 and 25-15.

This win took AMU to the quarter finals against JNDU. The AMU team lost to JNDU, but not without gaining another feather in their cap. Out of 42 teams, AMU reached an indelible spot and made it to the top 8 teams in the tournament.

Team captain Anamata Qasim, vice captain Farheen Khan, Saima Khan, Aafreen Naim, Azra Nazim and Aaliyah Iqbal gave outstanding performances during the tournament.

Prof Naima Khatoon, Principal Women’s College and Dr Nazia Khan, Assistant Director Sports Women’s College congratulated the team members for their stupendous performance. Dr. Jameel, President, Gymkhana Club encouraged the team members for their resilience.
