AMUOBA hosts Roller-Hockey Skating Competition in Commemoration of Freedom Fighters

 

Aligarh : Under the banner of the “Meri Mati, Mera Desh “ (My Soil, My Nation) campaign, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Old Boys Association organized an inter-club roller hockey skating competition at the AMU Skating Rink to honor the “August Kranti” and pay homage to freedom fighters. The competition, which witnessed participation from over a dozen teams, culminated in a thrilling final match between “Night Riders” and “Aligarh Riders.”

In a gripping showdown, Night Riders emerged victorious with a score of 7-3 against Aligarh Riders. Soban Mir’s stellar performance secured 3 goals, while Baazan contributed with 4 goals, clinching the victory for Night Riders. The runner-up title was claimed by “Aligarh Riders.”

The event commenced with an introduction by Dr. Azam Mir Khan , Secretary, AMU Old Boys Association, who acquainted the players and enthusiasts with the purpose of the event. A solemn oath-taking ceremony reaffirmed the commitment of the athletes and their supporters to the spirit of sportsmanship.

The award distribution ceremony was graced by Professor Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi, Secretary of the Games Committee, Deputy Commissioner of GST Tax Mr. Rais Ahmed, and Professor Mazhar Abbas, President of the Gymnasium Club. Medals and trophies were jointly presented by Dr. Kalim Ahmed Siddiqui, Professor M Naved Khan, and Professor Shadab, to the triumphant team.

The event also marked the felicitation of retired Skating Coach Mr. Ali Akbar. Eminent personalities and parents of the players attended the function, underscoring the camaraderie and support within the sports community.

The event was attended by senior players Labib Akbar, Tariq, Captain Santosh, Sajef, Hujayfa, and others, along with a host of distinguished individuals and parents of the athletes, including Kaleem Ahmed Khan (Shabbu), Jiya-ur-Rab, Liyaqat, Shahzad Burney, and more.
