An Awareness event on Corona Virus Disease(COVID-19) organised at Jamia Hamdard Let’s Talk About Coronavirus

An Awareness event for Preparedness, Prevention and Management of Corona Virus Disease(COVID-19) was organized by School of Unani Medical Education and Research(SUMER), Jamia Hamdard on March 12, 2020.
The invited speaker for the event was Prof. (Dr.) Prem Kapoor, HoD Medicine, HIMSR, Jamia Hamdard. Prof. Suhail Fatima, Dean, SUMER and the organizing chairperson of the event deliver the welcome address. She highlighted the importance of hygiene in preventing this infectious and contagious disease.
Dr. Kapoor while emphasizing the management of this dreadful virus covered each and every aspect of prevention and preparedness. The number of coronavirus cases across the globe is on the rise. More than 100,000 people have been infected by the virus ever since its outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan. Globally, more than 4,000 people have been killed and there is no vaccine for the new virus and no specific antiviral medicine to prevent or treat COVID-19, so treatment consists of supportive care to help relieve symptoms and, for severe cases, care to support vital organ functions, says Dr Kapoor. He stressed on the fact that it’s more dangerous in older adults because the immune system weakens with age.
Precautions suggested by Dr. Kapoor:
• Wash your hands with soap/use sanitizer after going in public
• Avoid crowds and poorly ventilated buildings
• Keep several feet of distance from people
• If you need to isolate, keep in touch with family and friends
The programme saw the participation of students of SUMER, HIMSR. More than 250 students, teaching and non-teaching staffs attended the programme.
The event concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Wasi Akhtar, the Organising Secretary.
