An evening of culture of the Mari people will take place in the reading room of the Scientific Library of PetrSU. The folklore and ethnographic ensemble “Shuldyr” (director – Alevtina Voitovich) performed for the audience.
“Sh u ldyr” is translated from the Mari language – “wings”, from the Udmurt language – “merry”. The creative team presented the traditional culture of the Finno-Ugric peoples of Russia. The ensemble was founded at the Department of Music of the Finno-Ugric Peoples of the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory named after V.I. A.K. Glazunov in 2017. The members of the ensemble are students and teachers, representatives of the Finno-Ugric peoples of Russia (Udmurts, Mari, Komi, Karelians).

The repertoire is based on traditional tunes and songs of Mari, Udmurts, Komi, Karelians.

It’s good to get together on a bad spring day and visit old friends. An evening of culture of the Mari people took place today in the library of the Petrozavodsk State University. For us who are involved in the Mari culture, a performance within the walls of the Scientific Library is an event like a meeting with a reliable comrade, loyal friends. Here you will find care from the library staff, attention and lively responses from the audience to the concert performances. And the youth folklore ensemble “Shuldyr” has always prepared premieres and new performances for our partners. Loud applause from the guests of the evening and a warm welcome confirmation of this,
