Anglia Ruskin University: ARU Peterborough to host Community Day
ARU Peterborough is throwing open its doors on Saturday, 20 August so people from across the region can explore the city’s new university campus.
Situated in the heart of Peterborough, the ARU Peterborough is inviting everyone to the free Community Day, which will be held at the newly completed first teaching building, University House on Bishop’s Road – between 10am and 1pm.
As well as offering a first look inside the new building, the event will offer a range of fabulous activities for all ages, while visitors will also be able to talk to staff about the courses and student support available at ARU Peterborough.
There will be the opportunity to test your nursing and midwifery skills in the building’s purpose-built nursing and midwifery skills labs. These simulate many aspects of a hospital ward and familiarise students with sophisticated healthcare equipment.
There will be the chance to experience Virtual Reality and discover the technology behind the university’s Mobile Gaming and Computer Science courses. Visitors can use computer code and artificial intelligence to help robots find their own way through a maze.
Some of the university’s biomedical scientists will be on hand to demonstrate how they diagnose diseases and develop treatments, and there is the chance to examine an unseen world under a digital microscope.
For younger visitors – or just the young at heart – Cambridge Science Centre will be bringing their science-themed exhibits and fooling the senses by making sound visible and solid, bending light, combining colour, and playing tricks with temperature and weight.
Other fun activities include magic shows, balloon modelling, a giant bubble show from a Guinness world record holding soap bubble artist, science busking and the chance to catch and taste a cloud!
Live music will be provided by Peterborough based acoustic duo Tash Hou and Elliot Jackson, and there will be lots of food and drink on offer.
Professor Ross Renton, Principal of ARU Peterborough, said:
“We’ve been talking about a university in Peterborough for decades but now it is finally here. We are immensely proud of the first of our new buildings and want to show it off to everyone.
“I would encourage anyone who is in the city on the morning of the 20 August, or is thinking of coming in, to walk down and visit us and see what we’ve done so far in creating Peterborough’s university.”
ARU Peterborough is a partnership between Anglia Ruskin University, the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority, and Peterborough City Council.
ARU Peterborough will open in September offering a wide range of courses from Business and Management, to Biomedical Science, to Engineering as well as a range of Degree Apprenticeships.
