ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region (ICAR-RCER), Patna organized an one-day Animal Health Camp and Awareness programme on Animal Genetic Resources for tribal farmers of West Champaran district in collaboration with Brajina Foundation, Ramnagar on September 13, 2024. The program was funded by institute tribal sub-plan and ICAR-National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal, Haryana. There were more than 100 women tribal farmers from the villages including Naurangia, Bakhri Bazaar, Bagahi and Nautanwa participated in the program. Under the guidance of Dr Anup Das, Director, ICAR-RCER, Patna, scientists including Dr Kamal Sarma, Dr PC Chandran, Dr Pradeep Kumar Ray, Dr Rohan Kumar Raman and Dr Ved Prakash participated and interacted with the farmers.
The farmers were given advisory guidelines on the strategies to enhance the household income through scientific rearing of livestock and poultry. During the programme, around 150 goats, 25 cattle and 100 poultry birds were treated for various ailments. There were more than 120 tribal women farmers enthusiastically interacted with the scientists with respect to the challenges they were facing in rearing domestic animals.
Awareness on animal genetic resources available with the farmers and their importance in enriching the ecosystem were discussed with the farmers.
The programme was successfully coordinated by Shri Prabhat Prasad and Ms Tanvi Shukla of Brajina Foundation along with Mrs Priyanka Devi and Radhika Devi, two progressive farmers from the locality.
