Annual Academic Convention 2020 held at ZJU Int’l Campus
The Annual Academic Convention 2020 of International Campus was held on December 26, bringing together more than 300 faculty members and students. With the theme of “Embracing Diverse Disciplines, Shaping the Future”, this year’s convention aimed at promoting the innovation system and creating an ecosystem of innovative and cross-disciplinary research.
“International Campus has long been committed to building a world-class academic environment, creating a favorable condition for young talent and establishing an open and collaborative platform for international research teams. We hope that this annual convention will promote deeper communication and interaction among various disciplines and the exploration of cooperation models,” HE Lianzhen, Vice President of Zhejiang University and Dean of International Campus, said in her welcome address. She also encouraged participants to devote themselves to making breakthroughs and solving future problems.
OUYANG Hongwei, Executive Vice Dean of International Campus, reviewed the academic progress over the past 4 years. With 49 full-time faculty members from home and abroad and nearly 100 adjunct ones, International Campus boasts 50,000 square meters of research labs, 3 public technology platforms, 6 international cooperation bases, 1 provincial engineering research center and 3 university-enterprise R&D centers. Research clusters in engineering, biomedicine and biomedical engineering have taken shape.
At the convention, WU Xiaobo, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, WANG Jian’an, Secretary of the CPC of Zhejiang University 2nd Affiliated Hospital, and XU Zhikang, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, delivered keynote speeches. The convention also set up three panel sessions: “ZJU BioMed-X”, “ZJUI Engineering+” and “ZIBS DigiFin-Global”. About 60 lectures on 7 themes, including infection & disease, cells & technology, industrial big data & artificial intelligence, materials & devices, smart energy, global finance, and digital economy & industrial practice, were put on.
The appointment of the 2nd Academic Affairs Committee was also announced at the convention. Likewise, members of the Committee are from 7 faculties of ZJU and a dozen first-tier disciplines. “International Campus will strive to develop a new paradigm of ‘international + cross-disciplinary’ by further optimizing the innovation ecosystem, continuously exploring the international cooperation model in scientific innovation and coordinating disciplinary clusters,” said OUYANG Hongwei.
