Annual Cyber Conference at Abertay Draws Hundreds of Students
Abertay Ethical Hacking Society hosted a day of talks, workshops and panel events as Europe’s largest student-run information security conference returned to Abertay University.
Running across three separate tracks, the conference featured both seasoned professional and first-time speakers, with attendees coming from all over the UK and overseas.
The sold-out event is now in its 12th year, with some of the highlights for 2024 including opening keynote, ‘A journey in cybersecurity’ from renowned cybersecurity analyst, James Kwaan, ‘Reflections on running the Cyber Marathon’ from Keith McDevitt of the Scottish Cyber Coordination Centre, and more than 20 other speaker sessions.
Securi-Tay 2024 was sponsored by Interrupt Labs, Lloyds Banking Group, Scottish Cyber Coordination Centre, N-Able, NCR Atleos, With Secure, Adarma, Pen Test Partners, Hyper9 and No Starch Press. All attendees had the opportunity to network with attending sponsors in the main exhibition space. Abertay Students’ Association also supported the event.
President of Abertay Ethical Hacking Society, Adam Board said:
We really pleased to have brought Securi-Tay 2024 back to the city for another year – it’s always a highlight of the calendar for the cybersecurity community in Scotland and it’s been great to see so many familiar faces returning from industry. Cybersecurity has come so far over the 12 years Securi-Tay has been live and it’s more important than ever that we keep creating opportunities like this for students, academics and industry experts to come together. A big thank you goes to all of the committee members and volunteers who have worked so hard to stage such a high-quality event, to all of our talented speakers and of course to the sponsors for helping us make it all happen.
Professor Liz Bacon, Principal & Vice-Chancellor at Abertay University said:
Our congratulations go to the wonderful and highly professional Abertay Ethical Hacking Society for once again bringing this high-profile conference to our campus. Securi-Tay enhances Dundee’s reputation as Scotland’s capital for technology and brings significant benefit to the city. The size and scale of the conference is all the more impressive because it’s organised entirely by students in their own time – a truly impressive achievement.
