Annual Flower Show begins at Aligarh Muslim University

ALIGARH : The Aligarh Muslim University Vice Chancellor today inaugurated the annual ‘Chrysanthemum, Coleus and Rose Show-2023’ at Gulistan-e-Syed, which is organized by the Department of Land and Gardens. The two-day flower show, offering a brilliant display of horticultural mastery under seven different classes, will conclude with prize distribution function on December 17.

Prof Zaki Anwar Siddiqui (Member in Charge, Department of Land and Gardens) said that among a total of 674 presentations, the Class A has 43 entries of roses and Class B has on display 22 ‘best flower arrangements by women and children’. There are 112 ‘Coleus’ presentations in Class C, 132 displays of Chrysanthemum in Class D, 33 flower presentations for the ‘King and the Queen of the Show’ in Class E, 114 ‘Chrysanthemum Double’ in Class F and 218 Ornamental Plants in Class G”.

Dr Tariq Aftab (Associate Member in Charge) informed that the participants of the show include the Vice Chancellor Lodge, Pro Vice Chancellor Lodge, Registrar Lodge, Staff Club, Victoria Gate Nursery, SS Hall North, SS Hall South, Gulistan-e-Syed, Guest Houses No. 1 and 3, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Botany, Botanical Garden, Begum Musharraf Jahan Rose Garden, Kennedy Hall, Al-Barkat Public School, RAF 104, and individual participants”.

Guest of Honour Prof Mohd Mohsin Khan (Finance Officer), Prof Abdul Alim (Dean Students’ Welfare) and Prof Naima Khatoon (Principal, Women’s College), Prof. Arif Inam, Prof. Wazahat Husain, Prof. Shakeel Ahmad, Prof. Fareed Mehdi, Prof. Moinuddin, Prof. Aftab Alam, Prof. Yunus Khalil Ansari, Prof.Mohd Ali Jauhar and Ms. Umra Zaheer were present on the occasion.

The flower show, which is open for the visitors till 5 pm, will be closed with prize distribution on December 17 at 3 pm by the chief guest, Shri Indra Vikram Singh (District Magistrate, Aligarh) and the guests of honour, AMU Registrar Mr Mohammad Imran (IPS) and the Proctor Prof Mohd Wasim Ali.
