Antimicrobial awareness week observed

 

ALIGARH : The Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University, in collaboration with the College of Nursing, organized a street play under the DBT-Bioinformatics Centre, National Network Project (NNP), marking the Antimicrobial Awareness Week, to spread awareness regarding the responsible use of antibiotics.

Prof. Asad U Khan, Coordinator, DBT-BIC NNP emphasized the importance of prescription by doctors and urged the people to avoid using over-the-counter drugs. He stated that more than 10 million deaths have so far been caused by antimicrobial resistance and 24 million people will go down the poverty line due to it in a few years.

Prof. Farha Azmi, Principal, Nursing College, mentioned ways to prevent antimicrobial resistance and urged the Nursing students to create awareness regarding minimum use of antibiotics.

Fatima Rashid, a student of B.Sc. Nursing said the play aimed to make the people aware of the consequences of misuse of drugs and the harmful effects of drug resistance.
