Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival 2021 hosts “Checkmate” with World Champion Viswanathan Anand in conversation with Boria Majumder

Kolkata:  The twelfth edition of the Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival today hosted an encouraging session “Checkmate” with Grandmaster, Viswanathan Anand. Eminent sports journalist Boria Majumdar, who is also a celebrated sports writer moderated the session.

In a country obsessed with the newest Netflix show, the Queen’s Gambit, Viswanathan Anand is a name that introduced India’s youth to the magic that is chess. From being a Grandmaster to being the poster-boy of alternate sporting careers in the country, Vishy Anand changed the way chess was witnessed and written. In the session the chess maestro spoke about his learnings, his passion for chess and life experiences playing the game.

In his conversation with Boria Majumdar, the world champion illuminated the conversation with his wonderful anecdotes on how he faced the hurdles in life and game with patience and perseverance.

In his book ‘Mind Master: Winning Lessons from a Champion’s Life’, Anand revisits his greatest games and worst losses, his unique experiences of playing against the best minds, and the methods he employs to prepare for wins, cope with disappointments and, simply, stay in the game.

The session concluded with a motivational note for youth “The road to success is full of hardships and challenges. But the young people can master it through rigorous practice certainly.”
