Applications invited from applicants from across India and SAARC Nations for Rs 11-lakh Rotary award “The Gopal Kamala Rajbhandari Humanity Award 2020”
Amaravathi: The Rotary International announced it’s most coveted Rs 11 Lakh award for literacy. In a press note issued in the city, Jawahar Vadlamani, the member of Rotary International invited applications to the most coveted award, known as The Gopal Kamala Rajbhandari Humanity Award 2020 in the area of literacy.
The Award cash prize is $ 15,000, in INR, it is around 11 lakhs. According to Jawahar Vadlamani, the award is open to non-Rotarian individuals and organisations from The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries—India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Pakistan.
The award and citation will be presented in a special function to be held on 16th May 2020 at Kathmandu, Nepal.
At the behest of Rotary International District 3292, Nepal, Rotary SAARC Gopal Kamala Humanity Award has been instituted. The Award is named after Rotarian Gopal Raj Bhandari and Kamala Raj Bhandari. Raj Bhandari family has graciously agreed to contribute the prize money of this award. Jawahar made a special appeal to all the people in both the Telugu States–Telangana and Andhra Pradesh to apply for the same.
The Award is given every two years in different areas of service. In this First Year, 2020, the award will be given in the field of “Basic Education and Literacy”. The main objective of this award is to recognize a person amongst SAARC countries for outstanding service extended to the community or society at large, in a selfless and dedicated manner, in the true spirit of the Rotary’s motto of ‘Service above Self’.
Based on the above, applications are invited from worthy individuals or organizations working in the field of Basic Education and Literacy from *India, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Maldives.
The selection of candidates, according to him, is those who are working selflessly in the field of literacy. And they can apply online. The applicant can be an individual or an organization. The Work should be directly related to Basic Education and Literacy – awareness/sensitization / direct contribution / significant change etc.
The applicant should be currently active and or involved in this field. The work should have been consistent over the last 5 years. The applicant should have not received any major State/National/International recognitions or awards. Those who apply should have a substantial visible social impact, The work must be national. Additionally, work could be international
The applicant should not be a member of the Rotary / Inner Wheel Clubs or blood relative of any Rotary / Rotaract / Inner Wheel member.
In case of an organization, any member of the Governing Board or Managing committee should not be a member of any Rotary / Rotaract / Inner Wheel club

The last date to apply is 23rd March 2020. So, requesting all of you to ask any unsung individual/s or organisation/s from any of the SAARC countries mentioned above to apply for this prestigious award, appealed Jawahar.
