Armed Forces Medical College, Pune lifts the coveted International trophy at Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2017
New Delhi: The 13th edition of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz, India’s largest and highest rated business quiz, successfully concluded at Vivanta by Taj President, Mumbai, where the National and International Finals were hosted back to back. Palak Kumar and Sudeep Saurabh from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur and Anmol Dhawan and Prabhav Vasistha from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune were declared the winners and runners-up respectively in the finely balanced National Finals of the coveted campus quiz. Anmol Dhawan and Prabhav Vasistha from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, thereafter fought off a stiff challenge from Gurtejbiir Sandhu and Sumanta Deb from SP Jain School of Global Management, Dubai to become winners of the International Finals of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2017, at the last question.
Based on the theme of ‘Gamification’, this year’s format comprised three segments – ‘League of Legends’, ‘Need for Strategy’ and ‘Game of Crowns’, inspired by contemporary games. At every stage, the rounds challenged the participants on the ability to strategize, think out-of-the box and exercise their analytical thinking. Mr. Giri Balasubramaniam, aka Pickbrain, kept the audience riveted with his intriguing questions and his distinctive style.
Since its inception in 2004, Tata Crucible Campus Quiz has transformed into a youth movement, becoming a passion for students across the country. The quiz that commenced with 8 cities reaching to about 800 students in India, has now expanded to 38 cities, with over 14,000 students participating in the regional rounds this year. The quiz also received an encouraging response from Shillong and Salem, the two new cities that were added this year. It has also expanded to new geographies such as Singapore and Dubai. For youngsters, it’s not just about winning the prize money, but even sheer participation at Tata Crucible Campus Quiz, is a wonderful experience.
From budding doctors and lawyers to art students, the quiz has witnessed participation from all possible streams to emerge as the finest business quiz in India. The quiz also made its debut in Dubai this year besides hosting its 10th edition in Singapore. The competition witnessed exhilarating performances and enthusiastic participation from students across UAE, Singapore and India.
The chief guest for the evening, Mr. Ishaat Hussain, Director, Tata Sons Limited, felicitated the winning teams. The National Champions were awarded the coveted Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2017 trophy and a prize money of Rs 5,00,000*. As a special prize this year, BOLT car from Tata Motors, was also awarded to each member of the national winning team.

Congratulating the winners on their brilliant performance, Mr. Ishaat Hussain, Director, Tata Sons Limited, said, “One must play the game beyond the prize and these youngsters did a wonderful job here today. The amount of knowledge and information available on the internet today is huge the challenge today is to manage this and sift through the nonsense to make sense. It is incredible how the teams from Dubai, Singapore, and India have all come together in the finals. It is a globalised world that we live in and our horizons are the knowledge of the world, of the globe and of the universe.”
On winning the National Finals at Mumbai, Palak Kumar said, “It feels like a dream come true after winning the National Finals of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2017. I have been watching videos of National and International winners and studying very hard to be like them for the last three years. What feels great is that I have inspired many people back in my college to quiz. This whole journey has been a learning experience and Tata Crucible has been an institution for all of us. It has definitely helped me in my quest for knowledge.”
Seconding his teammate’s sentiment, Sudeep Saurabh added, “This has been a long and arduous journey. For me Tata Crucible is about knowing stories of people becoming legends in this era – how they worked against all odds and became legends. It was my zeal for knowledge that got me into Tata Crucible. Now that I have won the title, I feel very confident of presenting myself to others because, as Giri said, knowledge is currency in today’s world and you need to start knowing things. Knowing is owning.”
After winning the international title, Anmol Dhawan from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, could hardly contain his excitement. He said, “It feels absolutely exhilarating to win the International Finals. We started business quizzing about a year ago, when our friends told us about Tata Crucible; till then our idea about quizzing was very different. I used to think quizzes would be boring and be only about numbers. But for Tata Crucible, we spent the last one year preparing consistently for this year’s competition and thankfully our arduous efforts have paid off.”
His teammate, Prabhav Vasistha, added, “The quiz was as exciting as it was interesting. We feel very lucky today to be the International winners and I would like to thank Tata Crucible for this platform.”
The teams competing for the National championship at the India edition of Tata Crucible Campus Quiz 2017 consisted of the top two teams from each of the five zones. They were:
