Arrangements for observing World Water Week finalised in Poonch
Poonch: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Rahul Yadav today chaired a meeting with the concerned Officers of the Jal Shakti Department and officers of the other Departments to finalise the arrangements for World Water Week activities.
Under this year’s theme “Valuing Water”, the district administration is going to organise varied awareness events to educate the public and stakeholders about the importance of water and its conservation.
At the outset, the Deputy Commissioner briefed the participants about the theme of this year’s world water week and said it is aimed at understanding how people value water economically, socially, culturally and the role it plays in their lives. World Water Day, held on 22 March every year since 1993, focuses on the importance of freshwater. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis, he added.
While reviewing the arrangements it was decided that special rallies would be organised at District and Block level by involving students, social organisations, BDC chairpersons, Panchs and sarpanchs.
It was also decided in the meeting that to educate the students and, common masses about the importance of water special seminars, cultural activities would be organised in schools and prominent places in the district, subdivisions and Block Headquarters.
The meeting was attended by SE Hydraulic, Prem Nath Gupta; Assistant Commissioner Development, Rajesh Lakhan; District Social Welfare Officer, Shakeel Ahmed; District Panchayat Officer, Israr Ahmed; Xen PHE Rajinder Sharma; ARTO, Inzar Rana, besides all concerned officers.
