Art House at Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre Presents the First-ever Museum Exhibition of American Pop Art in India

~Curated by Lawrence Van Hagen, the landmark exhibition brings the works of 12 pioneers of American Pop Art to India for the first time ever~

MUMBAI : Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre opened the doors to its latest visual art exhibit ‘POP: FAME, LOVE AND POWER’ at the Art House, its dedicated visual art space.

Curated by Lawrence Van Hagen, the exhibit takes the audience through the golden years of the American Pop Art movement that started in the late 1950s, tracing three themes intrinsically tied to the origins of the movement: FAME, LOVE AND POWER.

Sharing her thoughts on the occasion, Isha Ambani said, “This vivid, colorful, and imaginative exhibit fulfills the Cultural Centre’s promise of bringing the best of international art experiences to India. The showcase is special not only because it traces the incredible legacy of Pop Art, but because it has an unmistakable sense of fun about it. I’m especially excited to see it strike a chord with younger audiences and foster a culture of creativity with inspirations that go beyond time and space.”

This is the first time that an in-depth exhibition on Pop Art with such valuable artworks is being showcased in India. The artworks on display have been loaned by 22 lenders ranging from museums and foundations to private lenders across the world, including the Ambani Collection and Piramal Museum of Art.

It features works by twelve of the biggest names in American Pop Art – Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Coosje Van Bruggen, Ed Ruscha, Elaine Sturtevant, Keith Haring, James Rosenquist, Jim Dine, Robert Rauschenberg, Robert Indiana, Roy Lichtenstein, and Tom Wesselmann.

In attendance for the exhibit’s opening celebrations were a host of cultural enthusiasts from across the city.

‘POP: FAME, LOVE AND POWER’ will remain on view till February 11, 2024, at the Art House – the Cultural Centre’s museum-like visual art space that is designed to showcase a shifting array of artworks and exhibits by the finest Indian and international artists.
