Ashoka University calls for applications for the Young India Fellowship, Class of 2018

 

New Delhi: Ashoka University, the pioneer in Liberal Arts and Sciences Education calls for the second round of applications for the Young India Fellowship, a unique one-year multidisciplinary postgraduate diploma programme in Liberal Studies. It brings together a group of 300 bright young individuals who show exceptional intellectual ability and leadership potential from across the country, and trains them to become global agents of change. The deadline for submitting last applications is March 04, 2018.

A recognised undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline
Maximum of 28 years of age on 31st May, 2018
Strong academic record and extra-curricular engagement
Strong written and verbal communication skills

The Young India Fellowship exposes fellows to a diverse set of subjects and perspectives, delivered by some of the finest teachers and practitioners from India and around the world. In addition to our outstanding faculty from top global institutions, including Yale University, Delhi School of Economics, Harvard University, Indian School of Business, Fellows are also exposed to an extremely diverse peer group in a multidisciplinary environment. Students from various educational backgrounds are selected for the programme after a rigorous process of selection.

Some of the courses offered under the YIF include Gender Studies, International Development, Economics, History, Mathematical Thinking, Critical Writing, Psychology, etc. The curriculum is designed for Fellows to build perspective, undertake collaborative learning, develop critical thinking and gain problem-solving skills by combining academic work with on ground experience. Along with academic offering, Fellows are also given ample opportunity to develop their leadership skills. As part of the Experiential Learning Module, Fellows undertake eight month-long engagements on projects with established organisations, companies, institutions and individuals, from across fields.

After completing the programme, our Fellows have gained employment in diverse organisations across the corporate and development sectors. Some examples of corporate organisations where Young India Fellows may be found are American Express, Boston Consulting Group, McKinsey & Co, Tata Power, Hidesign, Indian Market Research Bureau, Financial Express, etc. A number of Fellows have also ventured into the development and non-profit sectors. The Centre for Entrepreneurship at Ashoka University acts as an on-campus incubator for business ideas. This has helped a few Fellows progress into having their own start-ups. Those interested in pursuing higher education have also gained offers from the top academic institutions of the world, including the University of Oxford, Harvard University, the Graduate Institute, National University of Singapore, etc.

Ashoka University, in keeping with its vision of liberal education, partners with the University of Pennsylvania; University of California, Berkeley; Trinity College, Dublin, Carleton College; University of Michigan: King’s College, London and Sciences Po, Paris. Financial Aid and Scholarships: The Young India Fellowship attracts applicants from all social or economic strata. To make it possible for all deserving applicants to avail this opportunity, Young India Fellowship offers need-based financial aid on tuition and hostel that cover, in full or in part. In addition to the financial aid options already available, this year the YIF will also offer the option of deferred fee payment.
