Aston University: Aston University to launch new crisis management research centre with one-day event
Aston University is set to launch a new research centre for crisis and disaster management with a one-day event on the University campus.
The Aston Crisis Management Centre is focused on the analysis of challenges faced by different stakeholders caused by disasters, crises, and disruptions. The Centre’s purpose is to provide support and design solutions that can be relevant in practice.
The launch event on 13 October, which coincides with International Day for Risk Reduction 2022, will take place in Conference Aston, with the public invited to attend in person or watch online.
It will feature talks from prominent speakers with experience of managing crises at Visa, American Airlines, the UK Cabinet Office and the National Science and Technology Centre for Disaster Reduction (NDRC) in Taiwan.
There will be an interactive session to discuss critical aspects for crisis management and a panel where attendees will be encouraged to ask speakers about different aspects of handling crises for different organisations. The panel will feature some of the earlier speakers, as well as Dr Karim Bensiali (former director of the IFRC MENA Region), Professor Pavel Albores (director of the Aston Crisis Management Research Centre) and Jonathan Hemus (managing director from Insignia).
Professor Pavel Albores, director of the Centre, said:
“I am looking forward to officially launching the Aston Crisis Management Centre at Aston University.
“Our aim is to be the world’s leading centre of excellence for crisis and disaster management insight, education, policy and practical (professional) implementation and have a tangible impact on practice and policy by supporting humanitarian, business and governmental organisations prepare, respond and recover from crises and disaster related incidents.
“Our current portfolio of interdisciplinary research is mostly applied and involves close collaboration between the centre and the analysts/policy advisors around the world.
“I am looking forward to strengthening the theory and practice from our projects.”
