Aston University Research Acknowledged in Proposed US Audit Procedure Amendments
The top US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has prominently referenced the research work of Aston University accounting expert Dr George Salijeni in its recent notice regarding proposed amendments to audit procedures.
This recognition highlights the global impact of Dr Salijeni’s research on the use of data analytics in auditing.
The SEC’s notice, released by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), addresses the growing use of data analytics in auditing. These amendments aim to enhance audit quality and investor protection by providing clearer guidance on the use of advanced data analytics tools in audit procedures.
Dr George Salijeni, programme director of the MSc International Accounting and Finance programme in Aston University’s Accounting Department, has been cited for his influential paper, Big Data and Changes in Audit Technology: Contemplating a Research Agenda (2019). Dr Salijeni’s research has significantly contributed to the understanding of the evolving landscape of audit technology and the critical role of big data.
His work aligns with the PCAOB’s objectives, addressing the necessity for updated audit standards in response to the increasing adoption of technology-assisted analysis in auditing practices. Dr Salijeni’s research highlights the opportunities and challenges presented by big data analytics in auditing, emphasising the need for clear regulatory guidance to mitigate uncertainties and encourage broader adoption of these technologies.
