Aston University To Host Disaster Management Expert’s Inaugural Lecture

Leading disaster management expert, Professor Pavel Albores, is to give an inaugural lecture at Aston Business School around how best to prepare and respond to crises around the world.

Professor Pavel Albores will reflect on his experience working in the area of crisis and disaster management over the last 19 years.

He will draw from scenarios such as flooding, terrorist attacks, volcanoes, nuclear plants and working with governments around the world.

The lecture will highlight some of the lessons on how to better prepare to respond to these incidents, the role that technology plays in this preparedness and how cultural aspects have a significant impact on the outcomes of a disaster, as well as signal future developments in the area.

Pavel Albores, professor of operations and supply chain management and director of the Crisis Management Research Centre at Aston University, said:

“Disasters are becoming more frequent and having greater impact on people and infrastructure. As we saw in the floods in the UK in 2020, or the Turkey earthquakes of March 2023, having response plans in place can mean the difference between life and death.

“This lecture will provide insights into future developments in the field and shed light on the importance of proactive measures in ensuring the safety and resilience of communities.”
