Avian influenza: CAHO Kulgam briefs about preparedness for prevention, control, containment measures

Kulgam: Following confirmation of Bird flu among dead crows at village Manzgam of DH Pora on 22 January, 2021, the CAHO Kulgam, Dr Nisar Ahmad today said that several measures were strictly taken to avoid transmission of the disease to poultry here.

The CAHO said that disinfectants and sanitization process is being conducted in the entire area by Animal Husbandry Department since 22-January 2021 besides surveillance and collection of samples from backyard poultry continued in the epicenter/alert zone and the same are submitted to the State Veterinary laboratory for confirmation of Bird flu.

He said, moreover Forest and Wildlife Departments have also been communicated to strengthen the surveillance in the forest area and report any unusual mortality in wild/migratory birds to CAHO office.

He added that advisory for General public and all stakeholders has been published in print and electronic media and all the prerequisite materials like PPE Kits, Masks, Caps and Gloves etc for tackling the outbreak of Bird Flu are available in bulk with CAHO.

The CAHO said that District Level Monitoring/ Control room has been set up in the office of District Nodal officer- Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Kulgam and in case of any unusual mortality in poultry/migratory birds people can contact immediately to Poultry Extension Officer Kulgam 7006260091 or Technical Officer, AHD Kulgam 7006960640.

He informed that there is no report of any unusual mortality in Backyard/Commercial poultry birds till date in district Kulgam and added that there is no need to panic and poultry can be consumed after proper cooking.
