Awareness Seminar marks end of World Breast Feeding Week at SMGS Hospital
JAMMU : An awareness seminar witnessing expert lectures by leading medical professionals today marked the end of World Breast Feeding Week here at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital.
During the week long programme conducted by Department of Pediatrics in collaboration with Department of Gynae & Obst, Government Medical College, Jammu witnessed series of awareness events on the benefits of Breast Feeding Week which started from August 1, 2021 to August 7 in SMGS Hospital. The awareness spread regarding benefits of Breast Feeding also included counseling of mothers to encourage them for Breast Feeding and solve their queries regarding the same.
On the concluding day of the programme, a seminar was held where at Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal & Dean, Government Medical College, Jammu was the Chief Guest. While speaking on this occasion, she appreciated the initiative taken by the twin Departments, especially, the awareness programme held daily for the mothers visiting the Hospital.
Further, she stressed upon to follow the theme of the World Breast Feeding Week 2021 i.e. “Protect Breast Feeding: A shared responsibility”.
Head of Pediatrics Department, Professor Dr. Ghanshyam Saini, in his lecture, informed the gathering about the importance of Breast Feeding and advised that it is very important that the mother start Breast Feeding their new born immediately after the birth of the new born as the first feed is very important for the immunity of the child. He made the masses aware about the importance of Breast Feeding especially during the Covid Pandemic. Further, Head of Gynae & Obst, Department, Professor Dr. Jyoti Hak also delivered a lecture regarding awareness amongst the young mothers and educated them regarding the techniques of correct Breast Feeding and also aware them that Covid Vaccination is safe for the new mothers and they can take vaccine without any fear.
