On January 28, the Russian House in Baku hosted a meeting of the conversation club “Polylog” on the topic “Russian souvenirs”.
Jamilya Safarova, a lecturer at the Baku Slavic University, introduced the participants to the history, beauty, and peculiarities of Russian Matryoshka dolls and Khokhloma-painted objects.
Gzhel ceramics, Palekh miniature, Orenburg down shawls and Pavlovo Posad shawls, Dymkovo toys, Zhostovo trays – all this could not only be seen on the screen but also touched with your hands. Each of the listed types of souvenirs has its long history and value.
During the meeting, Maria Zhukova, a representative of UrFU Preparatory Department for Foreign Students, spoke about the unique folk crafts of the Ural region. The meeting was held online with a connection to the Ural Federal University. The area is known for souvenirs made of semi-precious stones, Kasli iron sculptures, and Tagil trays.
