Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) and SDM Kalkaji in a Joint Raid, Rescues 22 Child Labourers from Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur

Under the leadership of SDM Kalkaji, Bachpan Bachao Andolan, founded by Nobel Peace Laureate, Kailash Satyarthi, along with police have rescued 22 child labourers in a joint raid. The raid at Pul Prahladpur had officials from Police department, NGO, Bal Vikas Dhara, Labour Department, Child Line, District Child Protection Unit and Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Also, 12 establishments have been sealed on the spot.
June as the Action Month against Child Labour, Bachpan Bachao Andolan is conducting month-long raids and rescues from across the country.
All 22 rescued children are trafficked from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. These children aged 12 to 17 were made to work for 10 to 12 hours. In the name of wages, they used to get only Rs. 50 or Rs. 100 daily.
After being rescued, all the children were medically examined and then produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). All the children have been sent to Mukti Ashram on the orders of CWC.
Kalkaji, SDM has ordered the police to register cases under Bonded Labour Act, Child Labour Act, JJ Act and Trafficking Act.
Expressing serious concern over the situation of child labour, Manish Sharma, Director of ‘Bachpan Bachao Andolan’ said, “Despite having stern laws to protect children from child labour and child abuse, people are exploiting vulnerable children and making them work in commercial establishments. Child traffickers bring children from other states and then push them into the quagmire of child labour. We hope the anti-trafficking bill is passed at the earliest in the parliament session.”
