Balance between studies and extracurricular activities key to success: DC Jammu

Interacts with students of GDC Jindrah at one Day Workshop on Career Counselling

JAMMU: Career Counseling and Placement Cell of Government Degree College (GDC) Jindrah, in collaboration with NSS unit on Monday organised a one day workshop on ‘Career in Civil Services’.

Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa was the Chief Guest, who had a thorough interaction with students on ‘Career in Civil Services’.

Tehsildar Dansal, Dhruv Gupta, Anil Sharma and Chairman All J&K Panchayat Conference were also present on the occasion. The College Principal Dr. Raj Shree Dhar, welcomed the guests. The resource person of the workshop was Career Counseling Officer, Dushyant Singh and Employment Officer, Shivali Chaudhary.

Both resource persons presented their views on various topics, ranging from current affairs to enrollment on the Employment portal. They also spoke on how to enhance skills to avail the job opportunities and to choose best between available career options.

In her address, the Deputy Commissioner shared her experience with the students regarding pre and post qualification of ‘Civil Services’.

She also shared the experience of difficulties faced during preparation for IAS and challenges faced by the civil Servants while performing the duty.

Pertinent to mention that Jindrah is a far flung area in District Jammu and it was a golden opportunity for students to have one on one interaction session with Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa. The DC blessed the students with her experience and guidance for the future. She also cleared the doubts of students and inspired them to opt civil services as their career option.

Giving them the success mantra, the Deputy Commissioner said that the balance between studies and extracurricular activities is key to success.

The students enjoyed the interactive session by raising many questions to clarify their doubts related to preparations to build a career. The students said that such sessions should be held on regular intervals.

The program was coordinated by Prof. Jasneet Kaur, Convener, Career Counseling Cell and Prof. Deepika Sharma, Program officer, NSS Unit and HOD, Environment Science(EVS). Dr. Seema, Librarian and Member, NSS Committee compiled and reported the event. A formal vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Jasneet Kaur.
