BAPASI ANNOUNCES THE SELECTED LIST OF WRITERS TO BE HONOURED WITH DR.KALAIGNAR KARUNANIDHI’S PORKILI FOR THE YEAR 2020

  • Writers and Scholars recognised and honoured past 12 years

Chennai: The Booksellers’ & Publishers’ Association of South India (BAPASI) organizes Chennai Book Fair for the past 43 years consecutively. BAPASI feels proud of being the organisers of Chennai Book Fair, one of the largest book fairs in Asia.

The 30th Chennai Book Fair was inaugurated by then Chief Minister Dr. Kalaignar Karuananidhi in the premises of St. Georges Anglo Indian Hr. Sec. School, Poonamalee High Road, Chennai on 10th January, 2007.  At this event Dr. Kalaignar Karuananidhi donated from his personal pocket an amount of Rs. 1 crore to form a trust under BAPASI.  The interest drawn from this capital amount is to be used to honour and award writers with one lakh rupees and an award for each writer for their excellence in writing every year.

From the year 2008 each year Writers and Scholars of various fields are honoured as per the guidelines of Dr. Kalaignar Karuananidhi who himself was a prolific Tamil writer and the vanguard of Tamil.

BAPASI has shouldered this responsibility and so far 82 writers and scholars have been honoured with the award and sum of 82 lakh has been given severally.

Writers and scholars of various fields are selected by a panel of selection committee. This year one such panel met on 10th March 2020, finalised the names of writers and scholars who are to be conferred with Dr. Kalaignar Karuananidhi Porkili and Award for this year. The honour and award ceremony will be held on World Book Day – 23rd April, 2020 in Chennai which is designed to  be a gala event with an august gathering of writers, publishers, poets, readers and scholars of various walks of life.
