Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support Course starts at JNMC as a regular feature
ALIGARH : The Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized a “Basic Cardiopulmonary Life Support (BCLS) Course”, with Prof S Moied Ahmed as the Course Coordinator and Prof Rakesh Garg, AIIMS, New Delhi, as the National Coordinator and Observer of the course, which was attended by 42 resident doctors.
Dr Obaid A Siddiqui, Dr Shahna Ali, Dr Nazia Tauheed, Dr Nadeem Raza and Dr Manazir Ather were the resource persons.
In her welcome address, Prof Veena Maheshwari, Dean, Faculty of Medicine emphasized that certification of these courses for the resident doctors has been made mandatory and it will be a regular event and the resident doctors would not have to go to other cities to do this course.
In his lecture, Prof Moied Ahmed highlighted the significance of the course which is based on Indian Guidelines on Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), formulated according to the Indian population, health care system and environmental and geographical variations in relation to the other parts of the world. Dr Ahmed is one of the lead authors of these guidelines.
He said that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has made it mandatory for the resident doctors to undertake BCLS and Comprehensive Cardiopulmonary Life Support (CCLS) course in the first year of their residency / training.
