Belitong (Indonesia) becomes Asia and the Pacific’s newest UNESCO Global Geopark

UNESCO welcomed eight new geopark sites to the Global Geoparks Network during the 211th session of UNESCO’s Executive Board meeting held online from 7 to 21 April 2021. Of the new Global Geoparks, one is Belitong in Indonesia, making a notable contribution to the region’s engagement with the UNESCO Global Geoparks programme and the sustainable future of the region’s people and nature.

The Executive Board also welcomed seven new geoparks in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy and Poland to the Global Geoparks Network. The network now counts 169 geoparks in 44 nations in the world.
