Bengaluru’s cycling enthusiasts ride for a greener planet

Bengaluru: The fifth edition of ‘Embassy Pedal for the Planet’ was hosted today at Embassy Golf Links. Underscoring the popularity of previous editions, the event this year witnessed participation from over 1000 cyclists and fitness enthusiasts, cutting across all age groups. The event was also the first ‘plastic-free’ outdoor event, laying greater emphasis on the Government of Karnataka’s efforts to make Bengaluru plastic-free. This initiative by Embassy Group seeks to foster closer relations within the communities it operates and ties in to the company’s ethos to promote healthy living and to work towards a greener planet.

The cyclists competed in various participating categories including Pro Elite covering a distance of 40 km, Amateur ride covering 25 km and three Fun rides, covering distances of 15 km, 8 km and 1 km, suitable for other cycling enthusiasts and children. Another highlight of ‘Embassy Pedal for the Planet’ is the CXO category, where around 20 corporate leaders participated, representing some of India’s leading business organizations and cutting across all industry sectors.

Jitu Virwani, Chairman and Managing Director, Embassy Group said, “Embassy has been hosting this unique event for the fifth consecutive year and we are very pleased to see that participation has steadily increased with every edition. This not only demonstrates a growing interest in bicycling as a valid mode of urban transport but more importantly, showcases the eco-consciousness and societal awareness of all citizens of the country.”

All proceeds from the Embassy Pedal for the Planet event will be donated to Colours of Life, a non-profit organization that works with the Embassy Group to support over 7000 children through holistic education initiatives across 17 government schools. The prize money worth 3 lakhs was awarded to the Winners and runners-up of the event.
