BHU CELEBRATES NATIONAL SCIENCE DAY, DR. K. KASTURIRANGAN DELIVERS SPECIAL LECTURE

 

Varanasi: Banaras Hindu University Celebrated National Science Day to commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect with a special lecture by none other than Padma Vibhushan Dr. K. Kasturirangan, former Chairman, ISRO and Chairman of the committee which spearheaded the National Education Policy 2020. Dr. Kasturirangan, as the Chief Guest of the function delivered his lecture on “Fascinating Developments in Recent Astronomy Research”. He explained in a very simple and illustrated manner the major developments of the field of Astronomy and Astrophysics. He said that Astronomy is older than Physics and study of Physics started with motions of astronomical objects. He elaborated on the development of the Universe from the Big Bang to the current situation. He said that using background radiation measurement the current temperature of the Universe was measured. Dr. Kasturirangan also described the Astrosat satellite and its objectives and various recent results by Astrosat measurements.

In his presidential address, Rector Prof. V. K. Shukla said that anyone who aspires to be C V Raman, C N R Rao or K Kasturirangan, must look at the contributions of these stalwarts and see how they dedicated their lives to science. He called upon students to be innovative and dedicate themselves to the cause of science, society and nation.
