BHU RESEARCH SCHOLAR SELECTED FOR PRESTIGIOUS UN TRAINING PROGRAM

Varanasi : Ms. Saumya Singh, JRF & Research Scholar in  DST-Mahamana Center of Excellence in Climate Change Research, Institute of Environment & Sustainable Development, BHU, has been selected for a prestigious training program of the United Nations. Ms. Singh is pursuing her research under the supervision of Prof R K Mall. She has been selected for UNITAR Hiroshima Women’s Leadership in Tsunami-based Disaster Risk Reduction Training Programme, which will be taking place from 6th to 11th March 2023 in Apia, Samoa. The program is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan, Govt. of Japan. She is one of the 5 candidates selected from over 100 participants from around the

world to participate in the second phase of the programme. The training aims to  strengthen women professionals’ leadership skills and knowledge in disaster risk reduction (DRR), to better prevent, prepare, confront, and recover from tsunami-based disasters. It will also develop an inclusive approach to DRR contextualized to the needs of their communities and countries, encouraging effective communication, and development of multi-stakeholder coalitions. The programme aims to contribute to SDGs “Quality Education”, “Gender Equality”, “Reduced Inequalities”,
“Sustainable Cities and Communities”, and “Peace, Justice and Strong  Institutions”.
