Birkbeck Welcomes Retention of Graduate Visa Route
Birkbeck is looking forward to continuing to welcome overseas students seeking to apply for the graduate visa, which allows those eligible to remain in the UK and work after completing their degree, following a Government announcement that the visa will be retained.
The visa, which permits students who successfully complete a bachelor’s or master’s degree to stay in the UK and work for two years and those completing a PhD, to remain and work for three years, has been retained following fears that it could be stopped by the UK Government.
Lynn Grimes, Director of Marketing and Student Recruitment said, “Birkbeck attracts students from over 140 countries because of the quality of its teaching, central London location and the prestigious University of London degrees it awards, which are recognised throughout the world. Data also shows that our graduates are among the most highly paid in the country six months after graduating from us.
“We know that many overseas students study with us because they want to work in the UK for a few years after graduating, to develop their career and experience. It is welcome news that the Government has recognised this is an important part of the significant contribution that overseas students make to the UK economy.
“We look forward to continuing to welcome overseas students to Birkbeck who want to remain in the country and work on the graduate route visa after successfully completing their degree.”
