BLDC pioneer Superfan aims to upskill blue-collar professionals through capacity-building workshops to further strengthen the Indian BLDC fan ecosystem
Coimbatore : Superfan, the BLDC pioneers of India, has taken a holistic industry-first initiative to introduce a series of capacity-building workshops to upskill 3000 blue-collar professionals in the southern states of India. The company has announced that the workshops are designed to enhance the skills of the workforce and empower them to meet the demands of the expanding market for BLDC fans. The program will be carried out in a phased approach by the pioneer team of BLDC motor fan experts at Superfan to educate the technicians/electricians with the necessary expertise in the maintenance, operation, and servicing of BLDC fans. This announcement comes in the background of Superfan’s 11th anniversary of launching India’s first super energy efficient (BLDC) ceiling fan and building an ecosystem of growth in the BLDC segment of the ceiling fan industry.
The BLDC fan segment in the overall Indian ceiling fan market is bound for exponential growth given that the BEE star labeling has become mandatory, with BLDC motor-based fans being the only available fans in the 5 star-rated category, coupled with its superior performance and the gradual rise in affinity amidst consumers for energy efficient appliance for their own savings and also as a concern towards our environment. The number of players in the market and the consumers who have gradually gravitated towards BLDC fans from regular ones have increased over time owing to the superior air delivery and the incredible savings of energy costs in the long run. The Indian BLDC fan market is progressing at a CAGR of 2.6%, according to The International Market Analysis Research and Consulting Group (IMARC Group). This program will empower enablers of the industry (the technicians) with the right knowledge of BLDC fans thereby ensuring a skilled workforce in place for the rapidly growing market.
Commenting on the anniversary announcement, Dr. Mayur Sundararajan, CEO of Superfan at Versa Drives Private Limited says, “Since the launch of Superfan, our commitment has been to make a lasting positive impact in the energy efficient appliances space. It began with the vision of building an ecosystem for super energy efficient fans coupled with a market that is conducive to the sustenance and growth of these fans. Since 2012, we have been working closely with the government agencies like BEE, BIS and EESL and along with NGOs like PRAYAS, CLASP, AEEE to promote super energy efficient fans in the market through suitable policies and standards, which resulted in the current mandatory star labeling in fans that came into effect in 2023 Jan. While being involved in these developments, we have come to observe that the enablers like electricians, service technicians and scraping enterprises are left out of all the plans of scaling up this energy efficient movement. Now is the right time to shift our focus towards the ground-level enablers who are key to the widespread adoption and success of super energy-efficient fans – the Technicians! Our team being the pioneers with over 10 years of experience in designing, manufacturing, marketing, selling, servicing and recycling BLDC fans are well placed to initiate this program and share the valuable experience. This investment in human capital is vital for the long-term sustainability and progress of the BLDC fan segment in the fan industry. The capacity building program, along with the launch of a new fan that connects with any AC to provide a hybrid cooling effect, that is sustainable and healthy, marks another pioneering milestone – signifying our testament to continue innovating and establishing a highly potent energy efficiency ecosystem in India. We will continue to innovate and set trends in the industry.”
As a recent addition to events connected to the overall growth of the BLDC fan segment in India, the EESL announced plans to deploy 10 million BLDC fans nationwide. Given this large-scale deployment, the quick addressing of the long term servicing and maintenance demand becomes paramount. Thus, the technicians will need to be prepared by upgrading their capacity to deal with market penetration of a new technology and its challenges that may surface along the path of technological advancements in the BLDC sector. By participating in the workshop, the technicians will gain exposure to the intricate details of a BLDC fan, from the design elements to the inner mechanics. This will help them gain hands-on learning experience on the differences between a regular fan and a BLDC motor-based fan in servicing, maintenance, and diagnostics. Superfan plans to gather blue-collar professionals from across South India by tying up with electrician associations and aggregators for this industry-focused program.
In addition to this, the company has also planned to begin the upcoming year with the launch of a range of IoT enabled BLDC ceiling fans called the “SuperQ DuoCool”.
