BMS College of Engineering launches Indian Green Building Council Student Chapter

 

Bangalore: The BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore has recently launched the IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Student Chapter, with an objective to promote ‘sustainability’ among the student community. The event helped the students to have a better understanding of the green technology and its needs in the current world scenario.

The event was graced by Arun Rao, Head Engineering, Assetz Property Group and Nupur Rishbood, Technical Director, Design Tree, a multi-disciplinary consultancy firm devising the state-of-art solutions for the real estate industries. Dr. Ravishankar Deekshit, Vice Principal, BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, the HODs and the faculties of various departments, were also present at the event.

Arun Rao, Head Engineering, Assetz Property Group said, “It is quite visible that green properties are environment friendly and helps people and makes a better place for people to stay. This initiative taken by the college has been an eye-opener for the other institutions in Bangalore to have a concept of necessity and awareness regarding implementing the subject of green technology and making the student-community to be more responsible towards the society and even the environment.”

Highlighting the importance of the IGBC student chapter, Dr. Ravishankar Deekshit, Vice-Principal, BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore said, “In the recent times, keeping in mind the awareness and necessity of being environment-friendly, teachers of various educational institutions encourage students to participate in green initiatives that help protect and improve the environment. It would eventually be productive for the students in creating a better future for them.”

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), a part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was formed in the year 2001, with a vision to establish a sustainability-built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the global leaders in the sustainable build environment by 2025. The IGBC student chapter will involve activities such as presentations and lectures by experts on Green buildings, opportunities to participate in IGBC events, internship opportunities for students on green building, design competition, participation in chapter meetings.
